VLT guide

VLT (visible light transmission) is the percentage of light a lens lets through. A lower VLT means a darker lens, suited to bright sun; a higher VLT lets in more light, which helps in flat or low light.

13% Darker · bright sun80% Lighter · low light

For example, 13% VLT lets through about 13 of every 100 units of visible light. UV400 describes UV protection separately.

Light levelVLTTintBest for
Bright sun8–18%DarkClear sky and strong snow glare. Most of our 13–18% fixed tints sit here.
Mixed daylightOver 18–43%MediumSun and cloud. A lens near 18–20% is still quite dark, not a dedicated storm lens.
Low daylightOver 43–80%LightOvercast skies, snowfall and flat light, when more light is useful.
Very low lightOver 80%Very light / clearVery weak light; choose a lens specifically intended for those conditions.
PhotochromicSee range belowVariableTint adapts across its listed range. The change is gradual and affected by temperature and UV exposure.

Black 18–80%
Blue 18–80%
Purple 18–80%
Mirror colour, transparency & UV400

A mirror reflects light from the outer lens; VLT tells you how much light passes through to your eyes. Outside colour and mirror strength do not reliably tell you the inside tint. Pink and purple lenses at 18–20% VLT are still quite dark.

Mirrored does not automatically mean polarised. UV400 protection is separate from tint, so a light lens can still protect against UVA and UVB.

Weather ranges are general guidance. Use the listed VLT for the exact model and lens, rather than the outside colour.

The Orbit 2 is a spherical-lens ski and snowboard goggle with magnetic lens fitting and a photochromic lens. Pick your lens and frame colour above.

  • Spherical lens shaped to curve in both directions for a natural, wide view.
  • Magnetic lens fitting for quick lens swaps without tools.
  • Photochromic lens that adjusts to changing light, so one lens covers more of the day on the mountain.
  • Double-layer anti-fog lens and UV400 protection.
  • Triple-layer foam padding for comfort against the face.
  • Designed to fit over glasses.
  • TPU frame with a polycarbonate lens.
  • Adjustable strap with anti-slip silicone strips.
  • Supplied with a case, pouch and instruction manual.
UV400 & lens technology

UV400 filters ultraviolet light up to 400 nanometres, covering UVA and UVB. This protects against UV exposure on the mountain, including light reflected by snow.

  1. UV400UV protection
  2. VLT %How much visible light reaches your eyes
  3. Lens colourAppearance and tint

UV protection and lens darkness are different: a lighter lens can still have UV400 protection.

This model: photochromic. The tint becomes darker in stronger light and lighter as light falls. It adapts gradually; temperature and UV exposure affect the response.

Anti-fog & ventilation

The double-layer lens helps insulate the warm air near your face from the cold outside. The anti-fog inner surface helps reduce condensation; vents allow warm, moist air to escape.

  1. 1 · Double lensInsulating air gap
  2. 2 · Anti-fogHelps limit condensation
  3. 3 · Clear ventsLets moisture escape

Keep vents free of snow and avoid covering them with your helmet or clothing. Keep the goggles off a warm forehead, and let a wet inner lens air-dry without rubbing it. Anti-fog reduces fogging; it cannot prevent it in every condition.

Magnetic fitting & lens changes

Magnets align and hold a compatible lens against the frame for a quick, tool-free change.

  1. 1 · ReleaseHold the frame and lens edges. Follow the included manual to release any clips or locks.
  2. 2 · AlignLift the released lens away and line up the compatible replacement. Avoid touching the inner surface.
  3. 3 · CheckSeat the lens evenly and secure all clips or locks. Check the whole rim before riding.

Use a lens made for this exact model. Similar shape or colour does not guarantee compatibility. Spare lenses are included only when the product listing says so.

Adjustable strap & secure fit

Slide the strap adjusters to fit your helmet or head. The silicone strips on the inside add grip to help the strap stay in place.

The triple-layer foam should sit evenly against your face. Aim for a snug seal without pressure on the nose or overtightening the strap. Keep the helmet brim clear of the goggle vents.

Lens shape & field of view

Spherical lens: curves horizontally and vertically for a rounded profile and a broad view.

Both shapes let you scan the slope ahead and to the sides. Your actual field of view also depends on frame size, helmet fit and how the goggles sit on your face.

Over glasses (OTG)

Designed to fit over prescription glasses. Check that the glasses sit inside the frame without pressure on the temples or contact with the lens. Fit depends on the size and shape of your glasses; ask us if you are unsure.

Goggle anti-fog protection does not stop prescription glasses from fogging.

Lens colours, VLT & weather

Choose by VLT, then colour. Lower VLT gives a darker view in bright light; higher VLT lets in more light for cloud, snowfall and flat light. The outer mirror colour does not reliably tell you the tint you see through.

Red 18–80%

Variable tint · changing daylight

Black 18–80%

Variable tint · changing daylight

Blue 18–80%

Variable tint · changing daylight

Purple 18–80%

Variable tint · changing daylight

Fixed tints around 18–20% are still quite dark. For very flat light or snowfall, choose higher VLT. Photochromic tint adjusts gradually within its listed range.

A mirror reflects some light at the outer surface; VLT describes how much still passes through. Mirrored does not automatically mean polarised, and pink or purple does not automatically mean a low-light lens.

Model differences & price

This model combines photochromic optics, a spherical lens and magnetic fitting.

Compare tint behaviour, lens shape, fitting and included accessories when comparing prices. Photochromic optics add automatic tint adjustment; magnetic fitting adds convenient lens changes. A higher price does not mean stronger UV400 protection.

The key lens difference: version 1 has a fixed tint; version 2 is photochromic. Both use spherical lenses and magnetic fitting. Check each listing for colours and included accessories.

UV400 protection

UV-filtering lens material helps protect your eyes on the mountain. UV protection comes from the lens material, rather than the mirror colour.

How to read this comparison

This sunny-piste example illustrates a darker view at roughly 18% VLT. It is not a measured preview of the selected lens colour, mirror coating or optical performance. For cloud and flat light, higher VLT lets more light through; photochromic tint changes gradually across its listed range.

UV400 filters ultraviolet light, which a screen comparison cannot show. See the product's lens, anti-fog and fit details above to compare its other benefits.
