Lenses & choosing a model

What does UV400 mean?

UV400 filters ultraviolet light up to 400 nanometres, covering UVA and UVB, including UV reflected by snow. It describes UV protection, not how dark a lens looks. A light lens can still offer UV400 protection.

Which VLT suits sun, cloud or snowfall?

VLT is the percentage of visible light that passes through a lens: 13% lets in about 13 of every 100 units of light. Lower VLT gives a darker view; higher VLT gives a lighter view.

  • Bright sun and snow glare: dark tints, typically 8–18% VLT.
  • Mixed daylight: medium tints, over 18–43% VLT.
  • Cloud, snowfall and flat light: lighter tints, over 43–80% VLT.

Our fixed tints around 18–20% are still quite dark; pink or purple does not automatically mean a storm lens. Use the exact model’s VLT guide on the product page.

Does mirror colour tell me how transparent a lens is?

The mirror is the reflective outer finish; VLT tells you how much light reaches your eyes. Outside colour does not reliably tell you the inside tint or transparency. Two similar-looking lenses can have different VLT, and mirrored does not automatically mean polarised.

Classic or photochromic: what changes?

Classic lenses keep a fixed tint. Photochromic lenses darken in stronger light and lighten as light falls, within their listed VLT range. The change is gradual and affected by temperature and UV exposure. Choose fixed tint for consistent light or photochromic for more varied daylight.

Magnetic or clip-on: how do I change a lens?

Magnetic fitting uses magnets to align and hold the lens. Clip-on fitting uses clips. Neither term tells you whether the lens is fixed-tint or photochromic.

  1. Hold the frame and lens edges; release any clips or locks as the included manual shows.
  2. Lift the released lens away and align the compatible replacement without touching the inner surface.
  3. Seat the rim evenly, secure every clip or lock and check the fit before riding.

Replacement lenses must match the exact model. A similar shape is not enough. Only listings that explicitly say so include a spare lens.

Spherical or cylindrical: what about the view?

Spherical lenses curve horizontally and vertically for a rounded profile. Cylindrical lenses curve horizontally and stay flatter vertically. Both give a broad view; the actual field of view also depends on frame size, helmet fit and how the goggles sit on your face.

Why does one model cost more than another?

Compare the combination of lens technology, frame design, fitting and included accessories. Photochromic optics add automatic tint adjustment; magnetic fitting makes lens changes convenient. Prices do not rank UV400 protection or guarantee a better fit.

For a useful like-for-like comparison, look at version 1 and version 2 in the Orbit, Alpine, Glacier and Drift series: version 1 has a fixed tint, version 2 is photochromic. Their product FAQs link the paired model and show current prices. Compare each listing for colours and accessories before choosing.

Fit, anti-fog & care

How do anti-fog lenses and vents work?

The double-layer lens helps insulate warm air near your face from the cold outside. The anti-fog inner surface helps limit condensation; clear vents let warm, moist air escape. This reduces fogging but cannot prevent it in every condition.

Keep vents free of snow and clothing, avoid pushing the goggles onto a warm forehead, and let the inside air-dry if wet. Do not rub the inner lens or use household cleaners.

How do I adjust the strap and stop it slipping?

Slide the strap adjusters for a snug fit around your helmet or head. Silicone strips on the inside add grip. The face foam should seal evenly without pressure on the nose; overtightening can reduce comfort. Keep the helmet brim clear of the vents.

How do I choose the right size and helmet fit?

Compare the frame dimensions on the product page with your face and helmet. Kids’ goggles should fit the child’s face and helmet rather than an age label alone. Helmet shapes vary; send us your helmet model if you need help.

Can I wear them over prescription glasses (OTG)?

OTG means over the glasses. Check that your glasses fit inside without pressure on the temples or touching the goggle lens. Goggle anti-fog protection does not stop your prescription glasses from fogging. Ask us about fit if you are unsure.

Do the goggles come with more than one lens?

It depends on the product. The listing specifies the supplied lens and accessories. Magnetic or clip-on fitting does not automatically mean a spare lens is included.

How should I look after my goggles?

Follow the included manual. Let wet lenses air-dry naturally; avoid rubbing the inside, where the anti-fog surface is. Use a clean lens-safe cloth on the outside once dry. Store fully dry goggles in their pouch or case, away from heat.
